During this project, I oversaw the data warehouse for this team as well as designing and developing the microservices for the next version of the Kaiser Permanente Operational Management (KPOM) application. Here are some highlights from this position:
* Used Scala and Apache Spark to build an ETL pipeline which processes 1.5TB of data daily and ingests from a wide variety of sources which include: MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, flat files (xls, xlsx, csv, json), as well as unstructured log files.
* Utilized Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, NestJS, Angular, and MongoDB to build a collection of microservices which together form the KPOM application.
* Built, configured, and managed a 7 node Kubernetes (K8s) cluster which uses Istio for service mesh functionality and HA Proxy as a reverse proxy for the cluster to provide fault tolerance in the case of the master node going down.
* Served as a technical lead and mentor for 4 developers on the KPOM part of this project.
* Introduced code reviews, automated unit testing, and linters to the team and as a result, there was a significant improvement in code quality.
During this trip, I hiked over 400 miles of trails in the Pacific Northwest, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. I also traveled through Peru, Bolivia, and Chile.
